Phill ''The Voice'' Harmer (vocals and harmonica)
Singing in his primary school choir could have brought an early halt to the musical aspirations of this teenage rock fan. Phill had visions of being the next Paul Rodgers - so he formed a classic rock band in his hometown of Haywards Heath. Three years later, and he happened to see the seminal film of Roddy Doyle’s ‘The Commitments’. Phill says ‘While I’ve got very wide musical tastes - from Van Halen to the Blues Brothers, via Supertramp to classic Stax records - the realisation dawned that my true calling was blues and soul’.
Phill formed a super-successful rhythm and blues tribute band and he’s never looked back. During a local paper interview, the journalist said ‘so you’re "The Voice!"’, acknowledging the power of his vocal performances - and Phill the Voice was christened. Thirty years (!) on, with well over a thousand gigs under his belt, Phill was looking for a new challenge and heard the other great musicians forming Slow Burn were looking for a frontman par excellence. Needless to say, he got the gig and now leads the band brilliantly, with powerhouse vocals and virtuoso harmonica solos. I just enjoy good music played well.
