Gus York (Pedal steel, slide & dobro)
A long-serving pro musician who started playing aged around fourteen. He joined a trad jazz band at fifteen and got to sit in with Acker Bilk, when his banjo player failed to show. ‘I was shaking with nerves, but Acker thought I did OK and bought our band a crate of beer - must have done something right’. He moved on to a folk trio and finally settled into country rock playing pedal steel, with the likes of Chas & Dave, The Tumbleweeds and Albert Lee.
Gus has since 'done time' in many different genres of music - including country rock, folk rock, blues, r&b, reggae and MOR. That’s a mix of musical ingredients that has seen Gus providing the cherry on top for many recording sessions! In the process, he’s also backed many mainstream artists - Lonnie Donegan, Toots and the Maytalls, Marianne Faithful, even joining Val Doonican on a five year world tour.
Now Gus is very much enjoying adding his unique and slightly different take on the blues with Slow Burn - and it certainly shows!
