Dave Carmichael (guitar)
Dave spent the late ‘70s and ‘80s - his formative years - in new wave and soul bands in London. Moving to Devon in the ‘90s, he played in several local covers outfits before forming acclaimed roots rockabilly trio, the Memphis Rockers. From there, Dave took up six-string duties with jazz-tinged Exmouth outfit the Paul Strange Quartet and, most recently, with eclectic pop/rock covers foursome Scallywag.
When Dave got the call from saxman Richard, he was delighted to join Slow Burn. ‘I’ve loved blues music for a very long time. In my teens, I was given a Stax compilation with some great tracks from Little Milton, Albert King and Freddie Robinson. Little Milton’s ‘Blue Monday’ came on and I was hooked.’ Since then, he’s absorbed a wide range of influences – from the Nat King Cole Trio to the Blasters via the Fabulous Thunderbirds. Now, with Slow Burn, Dave enjoys bringing a rootsy, funky feel to their classic repertoire. “The Slow Burners are a great bunch of guys to play with. We’ve got a unique style and the music gets better every time we play.”
